GENERAL COMMENT

The proposal is very valid: aims to present the gospel classic songs, but all tinged with happy and moved, from a full and proper implementation accompanying the chorus. - There are many duets, although Cash still involved, her figure looks clearly from all other casual partner. The last four songs are the only previously unpublished, and a pleasure to hear them. - It is a gospel album very interesting, and published several songs before through works like "A believer sing the truth" should not detract from its merit. - Very good. -

COMENTARIO GENERAL

La propuesta es muy válida: pretende presentar canciones clásicas del gospel, pero todas ellas con un tinte alegre y movido, a partir de una completa instrumentación y el adecuado acompañamiento de los coros.- También hay muchos duetos, aunque estando Cash de por medio, su figura claramente se asoma frente a cualquier otro partenaire ocasional. Las últimas cuatro canciones, son las únicas no publicadas previamente, y es un placer oirlas.- Es un disco gospel muy interesante, y la publicación de varias canciones con anterioridad a través de trabajos como “A believer sing the truth” no debe desmerecer su mérito.- Muy bueno.-

COMENTARIO PARTICULAR.-

1. Wings In The Morning : 2’45” apertura de guitarras para una balada con coros desde el inicio.- Es un gospel clásico, pronto llega el relato de la voz principal.- Alegre version.- Estilo vals.-

2. Gospel Boogie (A Wonderful Time Up There): 2’41”.- Una de mis canciones favoritas, una perfecta combinación del gospel con la música ligera. Instrumentación perfecta.- Cash hace maravillas con su voz, que es inagotable e incansable, a pesar de lo exigido que es vocalmente interpretar este tema.- De lo mejor.-

3. Over The Next Hill (We'll Be Home) (with Anita Carter) 2’39”.- Siempre el piano tiene importante relevancia en esta canción.- Es tan cálida y armoniosa que es imposible no disfrutarla.- En este caso, Anita Carter aporta su voz para los coros, mientras la instrumentación completa le da un tono alegre. Otra vez muy bueno.-

4. He's Alive (with June Carter Cash): 4’17”: La canción, por momentos, parece un western. Incluso tiene acordes similares a Ghostriders in the sky.- La voz de Cash es lo más destacado, en tanto que June aparece en un segundo plano, anticipandose a los coros.-

5. I've Got Jesus In My Soul : 2’39” Alegre versión, con muchos coros, que en ningún momento ocultan la voz principal.- Buen piano también a medio tema.-

6. When He Comes (with Rosanne Cash) 3’31”: Aqui, creo que Sony Music comete un error en el enuncio del tema.- La información oficial, habla de un dueto con su hija Rossane Cash. Pero no encuentro la voz de Rossane en ningún tramo, ya que creo que los coros son de la familia Carter y no de Rossane, que tiene una voz muy particular e inconfundible.- El tema es gospel clásico.- ¿Quizá en Sony han confundido el nombre de esta cancion con “September when it comes”, donde sí participa Rossane?

7. I Was There When It Happened (with Marshall Grant) : 2’23” : Este es un tema legendario, según el film, es el tema con el que Cash se presentó a Sam Phillips.- Marshall Grant es anunciado como participante del dueto, sólo por su aporte en los coros.- Sin menospreciar ese aporte, creo que el piano le da más brillo a la canción que los coros de Marshall.-

8. I'm A New Born Man : 1’42” Corta, pero alegre y disfrutable, con coros que permiten descanso a la voz de Cash.-

9. Strange Things Happening Every Day: 3’38”: Un comienzo a pura guitarra pesada, para pasar pronto a un relato optimista y alegre.- Son realmente pocos los gospel blues o gospel calmos a lo largo del compilado, que prefiere transmitir un mensaje optimista.-

10. Children Go Where I Send Thee: 2’46”: Otro de los temas movidos adaptados al gospel, en “two by two”, muy ritmico, y con participaciones auxiliares de June Carter, coros y otras voces femeninas.-

11. I'm Just An Old Chunk Of Coal : 2’19”.- Gospel tradicional, una version sin alternativas mayores para resaltar.

12. Lay Me Down In Dixie (with Cindy Cash): 2’08” : Cindy Cash siempre se anota en esta canción, y lamentablemente, siempre agrega lo suyo.- Creo que sin ella, hubiera sido una magnifica versión.- Por suerte, la voz de Cash es tan potente que disimula todo.-

13. Don't Take Everybody To Be Your Friend: 2’39”: Arranque a todo piano, para pasar a un divertido relato de Cash.- Otro buen aporte de los teclados.- Estoy convencido de que Cash, a lo largo de su carrera, debió interpretar más canciones utilizando solamente a un piano como acompañamiento.-

14. You'll Get Yours And I'll Get Mine (with Rodney Crowell): 2’23”: Rodney (yerno de Cash, ya que estuvo casado con Rossane) es un buen compañero para este tema.- Hay muchas diferencias entre las voces de Cash y de Rodney como para considerar al tema como un dueto

15. Oh Come, Angel Band : 3’43” Ya saben que esta balada es una de mis canciones preferidas, y no solamente hablando de gospel.- Aquí, Cash la canta completa, sin la habitual participación de June en la segunda estrofa.- Geniales los coros de la familia Carter.- La canción finaliza cantada sólo a capella, entre Cash y sus coristas.- Muy buena.-

16. This Train Is Bound For Glory (with June Carter Cash) : 3’39”: Boom chick a boom desde el inicio, ruidos similares a la presencia de los trenes, al final toma el ritmo que le conocemos a este tema muy utilizado por muchos artistas.-

17. I'm Gonna Try To Be That Way (with Jan Howard) 2’52”: Movido desde el comienzo, Cash tiene adecuado respaldo de los coros en todo momento.-

18. What On Earth Will You Do (For Heaven's Sake): 2’09” Otra de mis canciones favoritas, con buen piano, y suave y armoniosa vocalización de Cash, sumado a los coros oportunos y esparcidos.- Punto muy alto del compilado.-

19. That's Enough: 2’47” Contrariamente a lo que dice el título de la canción, nunca es suficiente, siempre es bueno un poco más de Cash.- El piano, en este tema, reluce de comienzo a fin.- Otro acierto.-

20. The Greatest Cowboy Of Them All (with Jack Routh): 3’59” : No entiendo la inclusión de este tema, típicamente western, en un compilado gospel.- Pero claro, la enorme calidad del mismo y la maestria de Cash, hace que siemrpe sea bueno escucharlo.- El tema ya estaba incluido en “A believer sing the truth”, de modo que no sorprende su inclusión.- Un tema magnifico y muy agradable.-

21. Didn't It Rain: (PU) 2’34”: Muy movido

22. He Touched Me (with Rodney Crowell): (PU) 2’34”: Arranque pianistico, estilo calmo, y gospel clásico.- Rodney es imperceptible al lado de Cash y del magnifico piano.-

23. Way Worn Traveler (with Helen Carter): (PU) 1’55”.- Helen es quizá la menos destacada integrante de la familia Carter. Pero acompaña bien a cash en esta balada típica.-

24. I'll Have A New Life (with June Carter Cash): (PU) 2’25” Muy alegre, movida y un dueto alegre con su esposa.-

25. Truth (PU): 2’16” Es la única canción no publicada previamente del disco 1, y es muy buena, como para justificar su inclusión.- Gospel clásico.-

Volume 2

GENERAL COMMENT:

Without a doubt, is the record that most arouses expectation of the two, being the one containing most of the unreleased material, which is the salt that collectors look for in each shipment.

It is a wonderful compilation of joyful versions of well known issues with very good acoustics, very good instrumentation, especially the contribution of the piano on several songs, good accompaniments of various artists in several duets, and since then, Cash splendid voice as the main seasoning. -

The songs range from 1 to 12, were recorded in Hendersonville between October and December 1975. - While the rest of the 13 to 26, from Nashville recordings of 1982. -

Most of the songs on this second album are unique, that is, never before released. The new songs are pointed out with (PU).

1. Back In The Fold: Song bluesy, somewhat similar to the classic Why my lord. (PU)

COMENTARIO GENERAL:

Sin ninguna duda, es el disco que más expectativa despierta de los dos, por ser el que contiene la mayor parte del material inédito, que es la sal que los coleccionistas buscamos en cada envio.

Es un maravilloso compilado de versiones alegres de temas bien conocidos, con muy buena acústica, muy buena instrumentación, especialmente por el aporte del piano en varias canciones, buenos acompañamientos de distintos artistas en varios duetos, y desde luego, espléndida voz de Cash como principal condimento.-

Las canciones que van de la 1 a la 12, fueron grabadas en Hendersonville entre Octubre y Diciembre de 1975.- En tanto que las restantes, de la 13 a la 26, provienen de grabaciones de Nashville del año 1982.-

La mayoría de las canciones de este segundo disco, son inéditas, es decir, nunca antes lanzadas. Las canciones inéditas, se las señala con (PU).

1. Back In The Fold Canción estilo blues, similar en cierto modo a la clásica Why my lord. (PU)

2. Look Unto The East • Del estilo de la anterior, con un mensaje optimista. (PU)

3. I Was There When It Happened : Maravilloso aporte del piano, que complementado con la voz de Cash, hacen un resultado excelente. Maravillosos los coros, en momentos oportunos.- (PU)

4. Sanctified : una alegre canción, con muchos coros y un diálogo con acompañante. 2'21"

5. Would You Recognize Jesus : La guitarra hace un magnifico aporte, y es una canción alegre, donde la mayor parte del tramo, es cantado a coro, desde luego con tramos exclusivamente a cargo de Cash. 2'33.- (PU)

6. That's Just Like Jesus : Gospel clásico y tradicional, canción calmada y típica de iglesia. 3'09". La voz de Cash, una maravilla..- (PU)

7. What On Earth Will You Do (For Heaven's Sake): Luego de una introducción con un relato de Cash, el piano y la voz de Cash se conjugan para entregar un brillante producto con una canción bien conocida, muy parecida en ciertos tramos a Over the next hill. 3'10" ultra disfrutables .- (PU).-

8. Keep Me From Blowing Away : Otra canción de gospel clásico, que transmite calma. 3'03".-

9. Don't Give Up On Me: Del estilo de la anterior, reflexivo tema , básicamente recitado.- 2'33" (PU)

10. Over The Next Hill (We'll Be Home) : Uno de los puntos fuertes del álbum.- Una canción maravillosa, a la que nada le falta: destacadísima voz de Cash en el comando, los coros que resaltan las partes necesarias, y la intrumentación acorde. 2'17" (PU)

11. Far Side Banks Of Jordan (duet with June Carter Cash): No podía faltar un dueto con June en esta serie. La batería marca el boom chick a boom tan clásico en las canciones de Cash. 2'47". (PU)

12. Our Little Old Home Town: 2'42" En ritmo alegre y con todos los intrumentos. Otro punto alto del conjunto. (PU)

13. Belshazzar: Es la versión más rítmica de esta canción tan clásica. Casi un rockabilly en este caso.- 3'00" muy agradables.-

14. My Children Walk In Truth: Ya habíamos escuchado una versión de este tema, en el recientemente publicado CD "House of Cash". Pero esta versión es muy distinta, ya que en sus 2'37" se puede disfrutar de la más completa instrumentación.- Especialmente, el piano en la apertura de la canción.-

15. The Old Rugged Cross (duet with Jessi Colter) : Los duetos con voces femeninas, ha sido un clásico en la discografía de Cash. Jessi Colter fue esposa de Waylon jennings, y junto a Cash, recrearon una muy sentida versión de esta canción tan simbólica y representativa del género gospel. Muy buena. 2'23".-

16. One Of These Days I'm Gonna Sit Down And Talk To Paul : Otro de los puntos fuertes del cd.- Nada que ver con la versión de House of Cash, aquí la instrumentación y el ritmo veloz, la transforman en un alegre tramo rockero. 3'06" para saborear.

17. God Ain't No Stained Glass Window: Retornamos al estilo más calmo y reflexivo, reflejado en 3'04" de buen gospel.

18. Half A Mile A Day: Comienzo con un relato de Cash, para luego desempeñar una magnifica balada gospel. En total son 3'25".-

19. Another Wide River To Cross: Movida desde el inicio, con apertura pianística y respaldo adecuado de los coros. Gran lucimiento de Cash, como en todo el conjunto. Son 2'24" en este caso Una voz grave resalta los coros al final del tema.-

20. You're Drifting Hawai: Gospel tradicional en esta balada de 1'37" con coros y susurros.

21. Believe In Him: 3'24" de cálida vocalización y suave instrumentación.

22. Over There: Aquí son 3'12" con comienzo calmo y desarrollo de elevada intensidad y coros típicos.- Muy buena versión.-

23. Gospel Road: 3'43" muy movidos, y por supuesto muy disfrutables. El ritmo rockero es explicitado por el propio Cash cuando canta "two by two".- Constante de inicio a fin, sin coros.- (PU)

24. What Is Man: Había escuchado ya esta canción en "The great lost perfomance", el directo de New Jersey 1990, en aquél caso en dueto con Cindy Clark.- Este versión es superior.- Cash canta solo a lo largo de los 2'37", y el resultado es óptimo.- (PU)

25. Wildwood In The Pines: 2'21" alegres, con introito de guitarra y desarrollo en tono de balada. No hay coros aquí, pero si muy buena guitarra. (PU)

26. Never Grow Old : Tambien esta versión es muy superior a la que escuchamos en My Mother hymns book (American). Desde ya, el aporte del piano le da un énfasis distinto. Otro punto saliente del álbum.- (PU)
