But the deterioration of Cash's voice could not be concealed in a very demanding version of That Lucky Old Sun, which emerged unscathed with much effort. The high points as well as "Solitary Man" would be "One", a very well played U2, and trash semimovida Country with Marty Stuart Squire. A good album, but lacking in emotional extremes. 8 points is the note.

Para esta altura de su carrera, las dificultades en la salud de Cash comenzaban a agudizarse, y sus visitas a clínicas e internaciones ya comenzaban a ser frecuentes, con el lógico e inevitable deterioro vocal, muy bien disimulado en la mayoría de las canciones de este disco, de predominante estilo "Americana" (baladas con ritmo intermedio y constante). Además, integraron este disco una notable legión de colaboradores especiales, como Tom Petty participando vocalmente en I wont back down y Solitary man (canción de Neil Diamond que es el hit del disco y su nombre), o Sheryl Crown y su fiel June Carter apoyandolo en Field of diamonds,  y especialmente su compañero de carrera Merle Haggard en dueto para I'm leaving now. Pero el deterioro de la voz de Cash no pudo ser disimulado en una muy exigente versión de That lucky old sun, de la que emergió airoso con mucho esfuerzo. Los puntos altos, además de "Solitary man" serían "One", un tema de U2 muy bien interpretado, y la semimovida Country trash, con Marty Stuart de escudero. Un buen disco, pero carente de extremos emotivos. 8 puntos es la nota.
